The World Boxing Association (WBA) has advised BoxingScene.com that their championships committee has ordered a mandatory fight between the super featherweight champion of the divisio, Gervonta Davis, and the main challenger, Panamanian Ricardo Nunez.

Davis and his handlers have been notified and will be given a period of 30 days to reach an agreement.

The date for the start of negotiations is May 7 and the period will be fulfilled on the day of June 6. Failure to reach an agreement, and the ordered fight will be sent to a purse bid, for which both parties would be duly notified with respect to the date and location.

Davis (21-0, 20 KOs)has been the WBA's "super" champion at 130-pounds since April 21, 2018. Since then, he has made only one defense of his belt against Mexico's Hugo Ruiz, whom he knocked out in a single round on February 19. Ruiz came in on late notice, replacing an injured Abner Mares.

The "regular" champion of the division is Andrew Cancio, who has a rematch coming up with Alberto Machado.

Nunez (21-2, 19 KOs) has been undefeated since getting knocked out in two rounds by Barnie Arguelles in 2015. They had an immediate rematch, which saw Nunez win by knockout in two rounds. He's won nine fights in a row and knocked out eight of those opponents.

But, Nunez has never fought anyone on the level of Davis and nearly his entire career has played out in Panama - with the exception of one fight that took place in Mexico in 2018.
