Amateur sensation George Kean has signed with top promoter Frank Warren and will make his glittering debut on Saturday 21st September at the grand opening of the Copper Box Arena.

The 22-year-old from Islington, North London, was a former boxer at the world renown Repton ABC, with 58 fights under his belts and has represented and captained both London and England.

Kean will fight at welterweight and goes straight into a six-round contest - instead of the traditional four-round introduction for a pro-debutant, against an opponent to be confirmed on the undercard of Warren’s big multi-title extravaganza featuring Billy Saunders v John Ryder, plus stars Dereck Chisora, Frankie Gavin, Paul Butler and Liam Walsh.

He has also featured in a documentary titled Prospects, along with friend Marlon Mellish, which follows their journey in the amateur ranks over four years which has received many rave reviews.

“Without a doubt Frank Warren is the best promoter out there for my career and he’s an Islington boy as well,” Said Kean.

“His track record speaks for itself and he’s promoted the best fighters and shows that this country has ever seen and I’m over the moon that my career is in his hands and he’ll ultimately guide me towards a world title, I’ve just got make sure I do the business in the ring,”

“It’s fantastic that I’m going to make my professional debut at the first ever boxing show at the Copper Box Arena, it’s a sensational card to make your debut on and alongside some of the big names in British boxing.  It’s going to be a memorable occasion to start my career off.”

Hall of Fame promoter Warren, who has developed and promoted the biggest stars over the last 30 years, is equally thrilled to have the young talent sign with him and is looking forward to building his career.

He said, “I’m absolutely delighted that George has joined the team.  He’s an exciting prospect and I can’t wait to see him fight at the Copper Box Arena and build his career.  He’s well supported by his fans now and once people see him in action he’s bound to attract more and more as he fights each time.”

The all-action fighter has a huge fan base who have followed him through his amateur career and he’s sure to attract more as he progresses through the pros.

Kean added, “With my style I’m definitely more suited to the professionals and I’m looking forward to getting in the ring without the vest and headguard and really showing what I can do,”

“I’m like Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan, Joe Calzaghe and Oscar De La Hoya all rolled into one.  Out of all of them I’m more like Hatton, he was my favourite fighter.  I’m just like him, coming at you at a hundred miles an hour, throwing plenty punches, especially the body shots with plenty of venom,”

“This is the start of something big and it all begins at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday 21st September.”
