George Groves faces a date with destiny in his bout against Martin Murray in an eliminator for the WBA super-middleweight title.

The 28-year-old is gearing up for one last attempt to make an impact on the world stage after his previous two failed challenges.

Groves appears to have turned the corner in 2016, but will face a massive test against the 33-year-old to gain his shot at the title.

The Londoner is backed at 4/11 in the latest boxing betting odds to claim victory in the fight at the 02 Arena and extend his winning streak to three matches.

Groves enjoyed an excellent start to his career, dominating in his opening 12 bouts to set up a clash against James DeGale in 2011.

The fight went the distance, only the third time the Londoner had been denied a knockout victory.

Groves was troubled by the favoured DeGale, taking ferocious blows in the third and the 11th, which saw him receive a cut to the head.

However, he managed to land enough telling strikes on his compatriot to clinch a majority decision, with two judges favouring him at 115-114, handing him the British super-middleweight title.

The Londoner picked up important victories over Baker Barakat and Noe Gonzalez Alcoba to remain unbeaten ahead of his much-anticipated clash with Carl Froch.

Groves was the underdog heading into the bout, but proved his talent with an outstanding performance to put the veteran fighter under pressure after knocking him down in the first round.

He was ahead in the ninth round on all the judges’ cards, but was then rocked by an onslaught from the Nottingham-born boxer and appeared to be in trouble.

Referee Howard Foster made the decision to end the bout, although the crowd and Groves insisted that he was capabe of continuing.

The controversy saw both men agree to a rematch at Wembley in front of a record crowd, but there Froch raised the level of his performance to knock out the Londoner and retain his WBA super-middleweight titles.

Groves got back on track with wins over Christopher Rebrasse and Denis Douglin, clinching and then defending the WBC Silver super-middleweight title to earn a shot against Badou Jack.

However, the fight was to end in disappointment for the 28-year-old as, despite bouncing back from a knockdown in the first round, the Swede broke through his defences in the later rounds to secure a victory on a split decision.

Groves once again rebounded with wins over Andrea Di Luisa and David Brophy to send him into the eliminator against Murray full of confidence.

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old finds himself in a similar situation to Groves, after failing to grasp his opportunities on the world stage, leaving him desperate for one final crack at a world title.

Both fighters have lost three times in their careers and the fact that it could be last-chance saloon for the duo may result in a tentative bout, with neither taking risks in the early rounds.

Groves has the talent to reach another world title bout, but his fight against his compatriot could be down to who holds their nerve at the 02 Arena.
