George Acosta didn’t waste any time lining up his next fight after his latest win.

The 24-year-old California native will enjoy his quickest turnaround to date, facing Puerto Rico’s Gadwin ‘El Abayarde’ Rosa (11-1, 9KOs) in a 10-round regional junior welterweight title fight atop the May 7 edition of Boxeo Telemundo, kicking off the series’ spring series live from Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. The announcement came one day after Acosta’s most recent victory, a six-round unanimous decision over Edgar Ramirez this past Sunday in Corona, California.

“When we got the call to fight on Telemundo, we got excited but didn’t want to get ahead of ourselves,” noted Acosta immediately after his aforementioned win over Ramirez. “I am now ready to face Gadwin Rosa on May 7th… we are back in the gym preparing for my fight.”

Acosta (11-1, 1KO) makes his network debut with the event. It is the latest collaboration between Telemundo’s primary content provider, All Star Boxing Inc. and Thompson Boxing, Acosta’s promoter who also represents Boxeo Telemundo regular Saul Sanchez.

The upcoming bout will mark the first scheduled 10-round affair for both boxers.

"We are happy to kick off our Boxeo Telemundo spring series with a great fight,” notes Felix ‘Tutico’ Zabala, Jr. of the spring season premiere. "We have two young, hungry fighters looking to prove they belong at the next level and that will bring out the best in these two warriors."

Acosta is currently riding a four-fight win streak, all resulting in six-round decision wins.

Rosa enters the ring for the first time since Oct. 2019, when he picked up a bounce-back win following the lone loss of his career six months prior. The 27-year-old from Ocala, Florida by way of Puerto Rico has fought in Philadelphia in his past six starts. The bout marks his third overall appearance in his Central Florida home base, the most recent of which came in Feb. 2018.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to fight in Kissimmee so close to my home & on Boxeo Telemundo,” notes Rosa, who lives roughly 90 minutes north of the fight site. “When I was a kid they nicknamed "El Abayarde" because like a fire ant, when they bite they burn, in my case when I hit, I hurt my opponents."

As has been the case with all Boxeo Telemundo events since the pandemic, the telecast will air live beginning 12:00 a.m. ET. Fans will be permitted to attend the event, in compliance with social distancing measures as applied by the venue and event promoter.
