Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York - Daniel Geale has come to New York twice and suffered defeat in a similar manner on both occasions, in which he told the referee he had nothing left and didn’t want to continue. He packed things up in the third round last year against Gennady Golovkin and did so the fourth round on Saturday night against Miguel Cotto.

Geale looked drained at the weigh-in as he made the 157-pound catch weight for the fight but made no excuses as he said Miguel Cotto was just the better man.

“Tonight wasn’t my night, was a little but frustrating,” Geale told the media. “I thought I could have offered more but that’s the way it goes. Miguel Cotto is a great champion. A great fight would be Golovkin and Cotto.”

Geale said he was surprised with Cotto’s speed and power.

“A little bit,” Geale said about being surprised by Cotto’s abilities. “I was expecting good speed, he was fast at getting where he needed to be. He hits hard. He’s a very low to the ground fighter. If you don’t watch for a split second, he’ll catch you”

Asked about how Cotto would fair with Golovkin, Geale said, “Gennady is a big strong fighter, he’s also got good footwork. It’d be an interesting fight if he fought the guy I fought tonight.”

Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to Cotto's WBC middleweight crown, but the Puerto Rican star is heading in the direction of a Saul "Canelo" Alvarez match in the fall.
