Little known Filipino fighter Ranee Ganoy continued his stunning streak of victories Friday in Australia.

Ganoy, a 25-year old product of a boxing stable in Mandaluyong City but is now fighting out of Wakee Salud Stable of Cebu City in central Philippines, captured the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Asia-Pacific light welterweight title with a technical knockout win at 1:02 of the ninth round over Ethiopia-born Johnny “Golden Hands” Shefferaw of Australia.

It was Ganoy’s third successive knockout win in Australia since he stunned highly touted Mick “Pony” Shaw on February 11 at Broncos Leagues Club, in Red Hill, Queensland. It was Shaw's first loss since 1999 as Ganoy picked up a sixth round TKO win after referee Brad Vocale forced to stop the fight at 2:55 of the round when the Australian fighter suffered a rib injury.

Ganoy’s other win this year was  a fifth round knockout of reigning Australian lightweight king Allan Luxford, also at Panthers World of Entertainment, on April 1.

Ganoy, who weight 136 ¼, improved to 17-9-2 with 14 knockouts while Shefferaw (139 ¾) dropped to an unconfirmed record of 6-4 with 4 KOs.

LORONA, BARCELONA FAIL IN IBF PAN PACIFIC TITLE BOUTS

The Ganoy-Shefferaw bout served as main event of a card at the Panthers World of Entertainment in Penrith, New South Wales where Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super-featherweight king Baby Lorona Jr. engaged in a gutsy fight for another regional crown.

Lorona gave everything to duplicate Ganoy’s impressive victory but Tommy Browne earned a unanimous decision win over 12 rounds to capture the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific super-featherweight title.

The judges had it 116-112 and 115-113 while the third official saw it in a very controversial 118-110 decision all in favor Browne, a former World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth featherweight champ and recent challenger of WBC featherweight champ Injin Chi of Korea.

On the same Friday night fight in Bangkok, Thailand, 38-year old (thirty eight) Nathan Barcelona also went in a distance in a bout against unbeaten Teerapong Distar for the vacant IBF bantamweight crown before a hostile crowd at Chaophraya Park Hotel.

The scorecards showed the Thai fighter beat Barcelona, who has at least 40 defeats in more than 70 fights, by a near shutout with a final tally of 119-109, 119-110 and 119-110.
