The former world super featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Gamaliel "Platano" Diaz, is training hard for his scheduled fight on September 13 in Manchester, Lancashire, against tough British contender Anthony Crolla.

Diaz feels very confident about going over to European soil. His training camp is ongoing with trainer Jose Morales Jr., and the boxer vows to arrive in great physical condition.

Fighting outside of Mexico, Diaz carries a credit balance of four wins and three defeats when he arrives at the Manchester Arena.

He had his hand raised in California where he defeated Robert Guerrero; and three times he returned with the victory of Japan: beating Naoto Fujiwara, Makoto Uheara in Osaka, and snatched the WBC super featherweight world championship in Tokyo from Takahiro Aoh.

The losses have come against Robert Guerrero in the California rematch; one in South Africa with Zolani Marali. And finally the battle where he lost the WBC super featherweight world belt in Tokyo, against Japan's current chief, Takashi Miura.

Gamaliel comes into this meeting with 38 wins, 11 defeats and two draws with 17 knockouts. Crolla has 28 wins (11 by knockout), four losses and one draw - and is currently the Intercontinental lightweight champion of the WBO title, which he defended three times successfully.
