Frazer Clarke a near-disastrous result to pick up his latest victory.

The 2020 Olympic Bronze medalist for Great Britain was dealt two point deductions for low blows but kept his act clean long enough to force a stoppage of countryman David Allen after six rounds. There were no knockdowns in the lumbering all-UK heavyweight clash but Allen was unable to continue due to a perforated eardrum in their Sky Sports Box Office preliminary bout Saturday at AO Arena in Manchester, England.

A slow-moving opening round saw Clarke pump his long left jab and Allen remained behind a high, tight guard. The same approach was taken by Allen in round two, as he fought more to not get knocked out than in search of an upset. Clarke picked up on the one-way action and intensified his offense. A committed right hand landed to the body for the 6’6” heavyweight who captained the Great Britain team in the delayed 2020 Tokyo competition.

Clarke also found success with his uppercut at close quarters, which connected in rounds two and three. Allen attempted to fight back but was forced to clinch when Clarke landed while the two were in a corner.

The patience of referee Mark Lyson was put to the test as he was forced to break up numerous clinches. Allen was warned in round five for pushing down on the back of Clarke’s head and throwing a right hand to the body behind the foul. The badly faded journeyman heavyweight also had to contend with blood from his mouth. Clarke was issued a hard warning for a low blow late in the round.

Clarke flirted with disqualification after he was docked two points for low blows in round six.

Both sequences took place within the first 25 seconds of the round, both courtesy of left hands below the high beltline of Allen. Clarke made a point to throw long right hands upstairs after the second deduction, though he was issued a scare when a straight right to the body was ruled low. Allen appeared to sell the referee on a foul, while Clarke protested that it was a clean body shot.

A third point deduction did not come of the matter, though Clarke didn’t tempt fate. It was almost exclusively head shots from that point through the balance of the round.

It was enough to stop the fight.

Allen shook his head as he walked back to his corner, at which point trainer Jamie Moore informed Lyson that his charge was done for the night. The setback ended a modest four-fight win streak for Allen, who fell to 21-6-2 (18KOs) after what turned out to be a perforated eardrum.

Clarke advanced to 8-0 (6KOs) as he picked up his fourth win on the year. The feat came after he went the full ten-round distance with former title challenger Mariusz Wach less than three months ago at York Hall.

Headlining the show, Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (32-3, 23KOs) will meet in a scheduled twelve-round, middleweight rematch. Smith won their first bout via fourth-round knockout.
