THE WEEKEND BEFORE last we were over in Los Angeles co-promoting probably the biggest fight of the year at the Staples Center between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

This coming Saturday we are at the Brentwood Centre continuing to build the career of another heavyweight force of nature. The locations don’t matter because both are just as important to us.

Development of young fighters and progressing their careers correctly is at the heart of our business and what we are about in the sport. Hopefully, in a few years’ time, some of the boys on the beat at Brentwood will also get to perform on the biggest stage of all.

I certainly suspect this will be the case with Daniel Dubois, who will take his professional career tally into double figures on the night at the age of just 21.

There is no rush with Daniel – or Nathan Gorman at 22 – the two I believe to be the top young heavyweights in world boxing. Because of the undoubted talent, what we are able to do is push them along and increase the risk level with each fight.

Daniel passed a significant examination last time out in Leicester when he took on Kevin Johnson, who has faced a Who’s Who of the heavyweight division in his time. Daniel didn’t manage to force the stoppage but he would have done if he had shown a bit more variety in his work.

That is the learning curve he is travelling. We wanted to get rounds into Daniel, that is what we got and he demonstrated that he possesses the stamina to operate at a high intensity over ten rounds.

Another awkward test awaits this weekend in the shape of the Californian-based Romanian Razvan Cojanu, who proved he can mix at a high level in his world title challenge against Joseph Parker in 2017.

His last two fights have come against Parker and Luis Ortiz, so Cojanu should provide an ideal test for Daniel at this stage of the game.

Another fight I am particularly looking forward to on the Brentwood bill is young Sunny Edwards taking a sizeable step up against Junior Granados.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for Sunny, what with preparing for this fight and at the same time welcoming his baby son Chance into the world. Congratulations Sunny!

Sunny proved that he is ready to operate at a higher level with a fantastic display in his last fight against former European champion Ryan Farrag. That it was a shutout points victory on two of the judges cards tells you all you need to know about that one.

Sunny has got a swagger about him, but he backs it up with genuine boxing ability and he will need it all if Grenados performs anything like he did on his last visit to these islands.

Fans will remember him from when he took on Jamie Conlan in Dublin and had him teetering on the brink of defeat after two knockdowns. Most referees would have waved it off, but Mickey Vann let Conlan continue and he rallied in the last few rounds to clinch a controversial decision.

Hopefully we are in for another treat this time around.

Bradley Skeete is back in action after his impressive 3rd round stoppage of Fernando Valencia last time out and we want more of the same from Brad, who is a good watch when he lets his shots go and tries to force the issue, rather than patiently wearing his opponents down.

He is a super talent – as well as a real gent – and the big fights will come a lot quicker if he backs himself and his ability and gambles a bit inside the ring.

Our 7-0 Featherweight talent Ryan Garner is also back in the ring after a bumpy year.

The 20-year-old is one of the brightest young talents in the sport and so exciting to watch. There are big things on the horizon for Ryan once he builds up a bit of momentum next year.

Ryan’s teammate, the lightweight Mark Chamberlain, makes his professional debut at Brentwood and I wish him every success for his career.
