Heavyweight contender Frank Sanchez would have given anything to fight in Miami last month, when Saul "Canelo'' Alvarez beat Avni Yildirim at Hard Rock Stadium.

Sanchez and Canelo are both guided by head trainer Eddy Reynoso.

But, the chance to showcase his skills alongside Canelo will likely happen on May 8th, when the Mexican superstar faces Billy Joe Saunders in a three belt unification at super middleweight.

Sanchez is already making plans to join Reynoso and Canelo in camp in San Diego, California.

"When they broke the news to me [about fighting on May 8], I was very happy. Now I'm going to camp in San Diego, to get ready to put on a good show and keep proving that I'm one of the best in the heavyweight division, a future world champion," Sanchez told George Ebro.

"They did tell me to fight [in Miami], but in the last fight against Julian Fernandez I ended up with a swollen ankle. In fact, I did the entire fight with that hassle. I had to take care of the orthopedics and when I was getting better, there were only two weeks left to do the fight in Miami [last month]. My team decided not to take any chances.

"I'm going to prepare well, because strong things are coming this year. We plan to discuss a world title shot. This May 8th event is going to be very big and I have to keep showing what I have. There are several potential opponents, but there is still no confirmation as to who it will be.''

"Things are going well [with all of the fighters being trained by Reynoso] and we're all approaching the goal of being world champions, like Oscar Valdez. If I stay healthy, I may fight on other cards involving Canelo and my mind is set on a title.''
