The next time former WBC super featherweight titlist, Francisco Vargas, steps into the ring, Joel Diaz will be in his corner as the lead trainer.

Back on January 28th, Vargas was halted in eleven rounds by Miguel Berchelt, who in the process captured the WBC super featherweight world title. Prior to that, Vargas went through Fight of The Year wars with Orlando Salido and Takashi Miura. In all three fights he suffered severe facial damage from the all-action pace.

"Francisco Vargas is a great athlete and he has a lot of experience. Training Francisco Vargas just gives me that motivation to show the people that on his last fight he didn't train properly and he didn't walk in that right against Berchelt with the right mindset," explained the respected trainer.

While just having 26 bouts to his record (23-1-2, 17 KO's) he's a fighter that has a lot of miles on him given the battles he's engaged in throughout his career. Diaz admits that and adds - "that's why he has wear-and-tear because every fight is a war."

So does he have anything left in the tank at age 32?

"He still has something left,"Diaz insisted. "Just because he lost the last fight, obviously he has some wear-and-tear in his body because of all the wars but he has something left and I truly believe, now that I worked with him the last couple of months, that if we get a rematch with Berchelt we can capture the title back."

Diaz tells BoxingScene.com that Vargas is expected to have his next fight at some point in November.
