At the Arena Oasis Cancun in Quintana Roo, Mexico, there was a big upset as Francisco Rojo (19-2, 12 KOs) secured a fifth round stoppage win over top lightweight contender Dante “Crazy“ Jardon (30-6, 23 KOs), who in the process lost a world title shot - as Jardon held the number one ranking under the WBC.

Jardon went down three times in the fifth round before the fight was stopped.

Jardon knocked out former contender Nery Saguilan in his last bout on August 6. The 29-year-old has won his last six bouts. Jardon fought for a world title belt as a junior lightweight, but was stopped by Takashi Miura in round nine in December of 2013.

Rojo also won his last six bouts in a row, though he had not fought the level of opposition Jardon has fought. Coming into this fight, his most impressive win to date as a pro came in his last bout on September 24, when he defeated former world title challenger Eduardo Escobedo by majority decision.

Also on the card, former world minimumweight titleholder Francisco Rodriguez Jr. (23-4-1, 14 KOs) got a five round technical decision over Hajime Nagai (14-8-2, 4 KOs) in a 10 round junior bantamweight bout. Nagai, who went down twice in the second round, suffered a bad cut from an accidental clash of heads - leading to an early end to the fight. All three judges saw it 50-43 for Rodriguez.

In his most recent attempt a world title belt in July of 2015, Rodriguez lost a unanimous decision to then WBO light flyweight titleholder Donnie Nietes.

Coming into this fight, Rodriguez and Nagai had won their last three bouts in a row.

Both fights aired live on Televisa throughout Mexico.
