Francisco Fonseca won the World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin super featherweight title by defeating Franco Gutiérrez by knockout in the second round at the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello, in Managua, Nicaragua.

The venue, named in honor of the Nicaraguan world boxing legend, was attended by great talent from the Central American country and had Fonseca as the main protagonist with a quick knockout that helped him win the regional belt of the pioneer organization.

Fonseca, with international experience and who has battled against good opponents, did his best to establish himself early against his compatriot and filled the arena with excitement on Saturday night.

Fonseca has a clear objective and that is to get another shot at the world title. He has strung together four consecutive victories and is well on his way to achieving it.

The 27-year-old’s record stands at 29 wins, 3 losses, 2 draws and 23 knockouts, while Gutierrez has dropped his to 11 wins, 7 losses, 2 draws and 6 knockouts.

Fonseca has now won four fights in a row since suffering a brutal first round knockout at the hands of undefeated lightweight Ryan Garcia in February 2020 in Los Angeles.

Following that loss, Fonseca has been rebuilding his career in Nicaragua.
