The low-profile fights FOX aired Saturday night drew comparable viewership to the network's previous boxing broadcasts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nielsen Media Research statistics released Wednesday indicated that the four-fight telecast drew an average of 920,000 viewers. The telecast attracted a peak viewership of 1,027,000 during the main event super middleweight David Morrell Jr.'s third-round technical knockout of overmatched Mike Gavronski at Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

Sucked seeing Kirkland go out like he did. Hopefully the man retires, it's clearly over for him. The man was pure entertainment during his career though.

Not bad viewership for a garbage mismatch.

That was what I was going to post. Overall, I think boxing has recovered nicely from HBO dropping it, resulting in these streaming services and opposing networks breaking up the divisions making it even harder to make good match-ups. If boxing organizations, promoters, and TV interests can just get out of their own way and get the best fights to happen, boxing can reclaim it's place as a top draw.

What is the cliché ... a rising tide lifts all boats? Everyone wins if these mismatches are the exception not the normal.

Yeah. It's too bad they don't.
