  • Comments Thread For: Robert Garcia on Mikey Chasing Pacquiao Fight: He Could Be Wasting His Time

As Mikey Garcia continues his hunt for a Manny Pacquiao showdown, his brother and trainer Robert Garcia cannot help but think that there is something illusory about this pursuit.

Robert talks about other guys fighting without a title. Mikey doesn't even have a title! He isn't seen as a serious contender at 147, is pretty much out of the picture at 140, and I can't see him being Pacquiao next fight.

Mickey is waiting on stablemate Jose Ramirez to expose the 'Tart-Tomato' Josh Taylor. When Ramirez sparks Taylor and becomes undisputed jr. welterweight champion of the world, Jose will vacate and Mickey will go back down and unify on PPV.

Regis Prograis, Jose Zepeda, Viktor Postol, Jose Pedraza are quality fights at 140.

Pac,Spence & Crawford have major 147 belts. Pac can make fights with either to unify and make the most $$.

Mikey is 140lb with no belts. That should mean no enterest from other champs with belts.

Mikey Garcia blew his chance at landing a fight with Pacquiao when he decided to fight Spence and lost. Fighting Spence was a dangerous fight and a big gamble. Had he won, the sky would have been the limit, but he lost. Pacquiao probably has 2 or 3 fights left in him. Those fights are probably gonna go to Spence, Crawford, Porter, or Mayweather should he decide to come out of retirement and stop handpicking opponents. And Mikey could've improved his chances at landing Pacquiao had he gone ahead and fought Danny Garcia..and won. He could've had a cause to demand a fight with Pacquiao....but since Danny recently lost, Mikey Garcia's stock isn't right enough to call out Pacquiao......And it would be a great fight.....but unfortunately, it will never happen.

We live in strange times. It has to be hard for even a competitive guy like Pac to know he'll make less money in a fight against a champion like Spence or Thurman than some farce against McGregor or even a Youtube star with some massive social media following. Pac could fall out of bed tomorrow and box one of the Paul brothers or KSI and it would do well over 1.5 million PPVs. McGregor, probably over 3 million. Two no risk "fights", or more accurately, shows, for giant money. Crazy.

I used to be a massive fan of Miguel Garcia, but things have really gone south for him lately. Chasing a Pacquiao fight or only fighting when "big name opponents" are willing to take him on is beyond asinine. You are not a big name, lost to the only truly big named fighter you fought, you are on nobodies radar at 147, and age is not on your side.

Robert Garcia is a good brother for trying to make Mikey see things the way they are. The guy seems a bit delusional at this point with that Manny fight.
