  • Comments Thread For: Smith On Facing Salamov-Vlasov Winner: I Was Told Alvarez Was Championship Fight

Joe Smith Jr. senses he has successfully navigated the most treacherous part of his path toward winning the WBO light heavyweight title. The heavy-handed contender doesn't know anything about Umar Salamov or Maksim Vlasov, both of whom he'll start studying soon. Those that are familiar with those Russian contenders have informed Smith that neither of them are as formidable as Eleider Alvarez, the former WBO champion Smith knocked out in the ninth round Saturday night at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas

From what the article an smith explained was that his fight with alvarez is basically the championship fight since everyone expects him to win easily in the next fight for the belt since those 2 other contenders ain't as well experienced as alvarez. You jus weren't able to see the whole context of what he said in the interview thats all

That was Glazkov, who seems to have disappeared ever since that fight/injury

No sign of the other Alvarez at LHW now? Why did he leave so fast? Maybe the prospect of hanging around for Beterbiev reminded him he could fight a who cares? for another alphabet strap at 168.

He surely isn't a walk in the park although I'm still not sold that he isn't a better fit at Cruiser specially given his age. Boiling down that frame to 175 at what, 32 or so now? Cant be easy. FWIW I think that Chilemba would cause Smith a world of problems.

Salamov? Meh, had some hopes for the kid early days but he's contrived to do almost nothing since taking an L early on... be genuinely massively surprised if he gets through Vlasov.
