  • Comments Thread For: Malignaggi: Mayweather-Pacquiao Backlash Came From Casuals That Don't Really Understand Boxing

The Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight unfolded pretty much the way Paulie Malignaggi expected. The Showtime analyst anticipated Mayweather dominating their heavily hyped welterweight title bout because he would dictate distance and thus nullify anything Pacquiao could do to win. Doing that enabled Mayweather to win their 12-round, pay-per-view main event by comfortable margins on all three scorecards (118-110, 116-112, 116-112) in May 2015 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

It wasn’t a good fight for casuals or anybody. Mayweather took a come beat me approach. It was clear that the less action Floyd would win. Floyd didn’t look good Manny didn’t look good. This isn’t the same fight that would have taken place 3-5 years earlier.

Let me say that if this is how boxing was always fought it would never have made it.

Notice Paulie never favored the Puncher?
I listen to Tyson and Holyfield not Paulie.

Well he did say Pacquiao would destroy McGregor in one round.

He’s right. There’s a lot of casuals out there who seem to think the sport is called slugging or toe-to-toe brawling rather than boxing and they can’t appreciate a master of the game who knows how to hit and not get hit. Mayweather schooled Pacquiao and made a guy who used to throw 100 punches a round so discouraged that he landed 81 punches in 12 rounds. One of the most masterful performances ever against a guy who people said was the “fighter of the decade” going in. Real boxing fans appreciate Floyd Mayweather but there’s far more casuals out there who really don’t know **** about boxing.

I wonder what he would have said if Pacquiao and not Mayweather was the one taking these suspicious IV’s.

Probably has to do with the fact that he believes Pac juices like a mad man. Think he’s also trying to discredit with the fight so that he rises as the more realistic possibility.
