  • Comments Thread For: Roman Gonzalez vs. Kal Yafai: Afterthoughts

The great ones only last so long. We know it from years of watching them come and go. There is no set time table and every run is different. But when it's over, it's over. It's not over yet for Nicaragua's Roman Gonzalez, freshly minted with the WBA belt in his second title reign at 115 lbs.

Feel a bit sorry for Yafai he's got to be hurting right now. He must have started to think that he was sitting at the top of the table after a string of defences, even if the resume was unspectacular. To get totally outboxed and finished in that fashion as a long-standing world champion taking your first real shot at the elite level has got to be a sore loss at 30 in your athletic prime. Gonzalez goes again though and Hearn won't be putting him on a long road of progressive opponents, he'll be straight back into big fights for maximum cash returns.

Disappointing night for Yafai but that was some performance from Gonzalez who was possibly written off too early.

Kal was a world champion who was not improving, he was hoping to get Roman on the slide bit like Wilder.

          Make it happen.

The current Estrada in 115lbs had improve greatly compared to the Estrada of 108 lbs. If Chocolatito appear with the same determination we saw in defeating Kal Yafai, then we are going to witness a 50/50 rematch affair.

Don't think he could have won, Chocolatito is just better …

but why o why did Yafai voluntarily stay in Chocolatito's dungeon? Fight the master of infighting in his preferred territory? Why?

Yafai is a mover, its what he does best, and decides not to against a dude you should definitely move against.

Doesn't make sense, but credit to Yafai for making the fight and trying to stand up to Roman.
