LAS VEGAS Charles Martin moved one step closer Saturday night toward earning another heavyweight title shot. The former IBF champion knocked out fellow contender Gerald Washington in the sixth round on the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury undercard at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Martin knocked down Washington with a left hand with 1:12 to go in the sixth round.

Does that mean another boring,one-side encounter with Joshua?

How come these average folks get mandatory shots and not the better ones?

Martin looked solid throughout. Kinda doubt he's ready for Joshua, but it will be interesting to see him vs another top 10 fighter. Ortiz, Povetkin, Hunter, etc.

That was a big win for Martin. He needed that win as most think he was fraud champion who won the lottery against Glazkov then Joshua. He put up a great fight against Kownacki but still hadn't beaten anyone until tonight. Washington isn't a top contender but he is in the top 25 & it gives Martin a legit win on his resume & put's to rest he is a dud. I would like to see him against any top 20 HW at this point. Just hopefully he stays busy & gets a few more big fights. He could end up facing Kownacki again in a IBF final eliminator if Adam gets pat Helenius...

This might be relevant if the IBF didn't consistently vacate its No#1 and No#2 spots as its cynical way of sucking more sanctioning fees.

This is its M.O. If you don't believe me take a look at the IBF rankings.

Not to mention they strip unified champs who don't fit their requirements.

Crawford was stripped in just two weeks when he became 140-pound undisputed king.

The better ones don't want the small share of the purse you get when you're a mandatory.

Well...the purse they get is lower than they would for a mandatory fight. Plus, there is no rematch clause if they win.

Imagine if Ruiz had won without a rematch clause. He would have charged a lion's share for giving Joshua an opportunity to take it back.

Wilder should fight Martin next, he is not ready for Fury.
