  • Comments Thread For: Spence Treads a Fine Line To Survive Porter

By Tris Dixon - It seems so harsh that a glove briefly skimming the canvas determines the outcome of a 36-minute battle that is fought with vigour, passion and heart. But that's what happened in Los Angeles on Saturday when Errol Spence squeaked by Shawn Porter over 12 frenetic and enthralling rounds. In the end the unbeaten Spence won...

History will parallel this against Leonard/Hagler in terms of disputes over who won and why.

Pacman's prediction was on the dot with Spence winning a close one. Now Pacman's only chance is same day weigh ins without IV plus VADA vs Spence or better yet retire as the greatest Midget of all time!?

"But Spence is such a savvy operator. He can break you up from the inside out or from the outside in."

That was the difference in the fight! No matter which way he wanted it, from the outside, or the inside, Spence was the better skilled fighter! Salute to Shawn Porter for a great performance! I say "RUN IT BACK!" That was definitely a FOY candidate, right along with J-Rock vs. Hurd! Actually, it's what you expect when you see a unification bout! HAND DOWN, MAN DOWN!

Well, I'd say Spence is slightly overrated. Only diehard fans put him on #1 P4P position, as though he's not top 3, but might be #5 following Loma, Bud, Usyk and Canelo.

Spence vs Porter another reminder of the importance of unifications

"36 minutes of absorbing action for two versions of the welterweight gold allowed Errol Spence Jr and Shawn Porter to put on a Fight of the Year contender, as an engaged Los Angeles crowd watched on in awe at the cream of the 147-pound division. In a fight that ebbed and flowed throughout the 12 rounds, a six-minute burst from Spence in the closing two rounds proved to be the defining difference, dropping “Showtime” with a thunderous left hook in the 11th."

Errol Spence Jr. rallies to outpoint Shawn Porter by split decision in a welterweight classic

Everyone who watched the PBC presentation, which was broadcast on FOX PPV in the U.S., enjoyed it. The strong Fight-of-the-Year candidate was part high-speed chess match, skillful shootout and battle of attrition. Beginning with a rousing Round 4, there were several toe-to-toe exchanges and shifts in momentum that elicited loud “Ooohs” and “Ahhhs” from the captivated crowd. The final three rounds were as intense and dramatic as high-profile prize fights get.

The matchup delivered thrills that exceeded its expectations, pitting Spence’s textbook technique and accurate power punching against Porter’s relentless and unorthodox brand of fighting. The Ohioan’s granite chin, high-volume work rate, mauling tactics and body work tested Spence in ways the boxing world has never seen during his previous 25 pro bouts, but the talented southpaw landed the cleaner, harder punches throughout the fight.
