  • Comments Thread For: Hearn, Warren Agree: Nigel Benn Should Reconsider Return Plan

Nigel Benn is expected to announce his comeback at a press conference in London on Thursday at the age of 55 after being retired for 23 years. One of the most popular British boxers in the past half-century, Benn, the former WBO middleweight champion and WBC super-middleweight champion, is scheduled to box at the Resorts World Arena, Birmingham, on November 23. It is the same venue although then it was simply known as the National Exhibition Centre where he faces Chris Eubank in their first fight 29 years ago.

Listen, im not for Benn fighting again at all, but to listen to these two condemn it, after the kind of mismatches they put on with their "last minute subs" is a bad joke. They'd put their granny in with Wilder if they thought there was money in it.

Every promoter and match maker has, and will always do mis-matches. It's why journey men exist, get fighters experience, exposure, build a record (padded or not), but this is a completely different level of mismatch, so can't really compare.

The Dark Destroyer is one of my favourite fighters of all time, and I agree....he should stay retired for his health. Agree 100% with Hearn.

Hate these types of situations. And this is one of the reasons Im for tier levels in the sport. I think you end a lot of comebacks before they start by making mfers move up the rankings & earning their spot higher up & for the bigger money. And f#ck honestly its just a complete bs look that a 55 year old can compete in pro boxing. Only pro boxing of mosy pro sports has such a low barrier of entry that basically allows anyone who dont fall of the treadmill while getting accessed to get a pro boxers license.

Not wise, been should consider his family first above all. If/when he gets hurt they will be traumatized the most

The way around this fight is simple , for trained medical staff to refuse to attend the event or the general medical council to withdraw any insurance cover to doctors or medics attending ( if possible) then the so called governing body sanctioning this may think twice about this rediculous mismatch should bika take it seriously and cause a potentially tragic outcome . This has high risk against very low reward written all over it .
