  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Reflects on Yarde's Defeat To Sergey Kovalev

THE PARTICIPATION OF Anthony Yarde in world title contests has only just got started and, against world championship veteran Sergey Kovalev, he demonstrated that he is not out of his depth against such exalted company. I said all along that, even if he lost over in Chelyabinsk in his first foray into the deep end, he would still be better for the experience in future and it would provide a steep learning curve.

Warren really needed that win, if Tyson loses we might need to put him on suicide watch

Notice how Eddie Hearn didn't take shots at his fighter after the loss? that's a lesson Frank should learn

        If, If, If.

Geez bub, get over it. Your guy lost. BADLY. Yeah, he won a few rounds. So what. Kovalev was the WAY smarter fighter, and your guy ran outta gas by the 8th, and in that round (his best) couldn't even drop the champion. He failed. His trainer is crapola, his style was all wrong for this fight, and he has a bunch of bad habits that it's questionable he will ever be able to shed. Does he even have the patience to do a full fight as a technical boxer? Will he ever increase his accuracy to an elite level? Will he always gas out when he turns on the aggression?

Warren needs to stop praising the LOSER of the fight, and get to work on either FIXING the guy, or relegating him to gatekeeper.

Mr.Warren not a word about excellent perfomance by a 36-year old veteran, Kova was targeting that huge body from round 1, thàts why Yarde was exhuasted, rewatch the fight and count the bodyshots from Kovalev - jabs and right hooks (dont bother, he landed about 100 body shots in total), seems to me like Yarde cant take it to the body

Tunde telling Yarde to put it in all that round was silly, it's a 12 round fight.

Because he is still hiding his head in shame, disgraceful PPV Hughie Fury was on free tv and stuck the place out and his reward is a PPV fight now you tell me who the hell is looking for the fans not Hearns

I agree with this. "If" doesn't cut it.

The fact is that Yarde wasn't ready to step up to Kovalev because he'd never been in a tough, competitive fight in his life till that point.

And the reason he lacked that experience is that either Warren or Tunde turned down attempts to match him with top domestic opponents like Hosea Burton and Callum Johnson because they didn't want to risk him losing his high WBO ranking.

You can't have your cake and eat it.

Hughie vs Povetkin wasn't a PPV fight. It was on the undercard of Loma vs Campbell.

Kovalev boxed perfectly, fed his jab all night long to this dude, weathered the storm in 8th and put young dude down.. in the late rounds 36 year old looked fresher then a 28 year old... Schooling....
