  • Comments Thread For: Beltran Makes Weight At IBF's 2nd Weigh-In; Commey Fight On

Ray Beltran made weight Friday morning and will move forward with his fight against Richard Commey on Friday night. The 38-year-old Beltran was overweight Thursday for their 12-round, 135-pound championship match, which disqualified him from fighting for Commey's IBF lightweight title. Beltran paid a $20,000 penalty to Commey for failing to make weight, but he also wasn't allowed to weigh more than 146 pounds at the IBF's second-day weigh-in Friday morning.

By now, these weight issues have turned many fights into farces.

So that means if Beltran wins, Lopez fights him next if he defeats Nakatani, which means no title fight for Lopez and if Lopez doesn't have a belt no fight with Loma, so the plan backfires on Lopez

        Nice very nice

That shows it wasn't intentional. Beltran has no advantage now

Commey actually made 135, to say Beltran has no edge is to ignore that effort. Did you ever hear of leaving the fight in the gym? Commey is taking that chance, while Beltran refused to even try. He has that edge.

Yeah ok, but I don't think Beltran did it on purpose to have a weight advantage

OK. Beltran is a nice guy, but if he didn't do anything wrong, why did he have to pay $20K?

So this fight lost the luster of being a trampoline to fight Lopez! Now who cares about it.

It's just hugely disappointing, especially if Beltran somehow wins this fight. What a fubar. At 38, don't see how Beltran can afford another detour. It's like he is cursed to never get that big payday. SMH
