  • Comments Thread For: Ishe Smith Decides To Retire from Boxing After Stoppage Loss

Earlier tonight in Carson, California, super welterweight contest Erickson Lubin (20-1) dropped former champion Ishe Smith (29-11) 4 times in route to a TKO victory. Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Smith's trainer, instructed referee Jack Reiss to stop their fight following the third round because Smith had taken too much punishment.

Good call....at 40 and 3 straight losses the last one a dominant stoppage...time to call it a day, especially when he never could hit with power anyway. Don’t come back champ, for every thing in life there is a season and the seasons change

Most fighters dont retire on top and while Smith isnt on top he also isnt brain damaged.

Heres the catch: hopefully he retires and can stay retired. Might be easier for Ishe since he lost 3 in a row and so any comeback fight would not be especially lucrative.

He was a good fighter and although I wasn't a huge fan of his style I did see him fight a few times. Nothing wrong with being a good fighter in any era. Hope he sticks around and considers training or promoting in the future, possibly working with Floyd or Al

Smith made history in 2013 when he became the first Las Vegas born fighter to capture a world title when he defeated Cornelius Bundrage in his hometown of Detroit.

There's a compliment for every little thing.....1st LV guy . Who will even remember that bit of insignificance in a year ?

              Very good decision

It would only be downhill from here on. He gave J-Rock a very good fight tho not so long ago

Ishe was a gun, not the most talented but he got it done. Got too much flack for crying after K9 win. in a passionate sport , emotions will show

Just goes to show how GOOD the Contender Season 1 really was.

Ishe Smith, Mora and Manfredo all won titles and a number of other guys had pretty decent careers.

                  I miss that show.
