Maybe I'm just being thick but I didn't understand the bit about one of them being deducted a point for an accidental clash of heads??

Surely if you're deducting a point from a fighter then you're saying that it wasn't an accident?

Never heard of this rule before, not in this way anyway, can anyone explain it clearer to me please? As it just sounds like the guy who didn't suffer a cut from an accidental clash of heads loses a point.

That point could be the difference between a win and a loss, whereas the other boxer might just have a little nick that doesn't bother him.
