  • Comments Thread For: Trainer: Easter Must Use Height, Reach Better Versus Garcia

LOS ANGELES – Kevin Cunningham didn’t divulge too much about Robert Easter Jr.’s game plan for his fight against Mikey Garcia. But what’s obvious to Cunningham, Easter’s new trainer, and most others who’ve watched Easter’s last few fights is that the unusually tall lightweight must make better use of the height and reach advantages he has over his opponents. Garcia is five inches shorter than the 5-feet-11 Easter and will need to find a way inside his opponent’s eight-inch reach advantage to have success in their 12-round, 135-pound title unification fight Saturday night at Staples Center (Showtime; 10 p.m. ET).

The trainer is right but for some reason he wants to slug inside all the time.

He doesn't know how to. We can clearly see that. He's getting dominated tonight

In order to use height, reach, or anything else, you need good foot work. Stick and move, not stick and fall in. So far Easter plods with the best of them.

Cunningham always says his fighters need to do what they don't do to win.

It's on him to make his fighters do that.
