  • Comments Thread For: Who Really Won In The Canelo-Golovkin Rematch Negotiations?

By Andreas Hale - Finally. After what felt like an eternity of posturing by the parties representing Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, the two sides finally came to an agreement for a rematch that will take place on September 15th at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a tenuous back and forth that nearly didn't come to fruition after Golovkin failed to meet the noon deadline set by Golden Boy Promotions. But just as quickly as the window closed, it was pried back open with a "Hail Mary" attempt to secure the deal...

Age versus the juice. Without the peds ginger-boy won't have enough strength to handle GGG's power.

Finally the Good comes out in fine shape, that be GGG!

The Bad has had to wait a year and face his misdeeds.

The Ugly is when BIGASSRED’s face is all twisted up from GGG’s left hook and hits the mat reaching fer his ass that got knocked off

My understanding is that GBP did not move from their last offer of 42.5%, it was MGM arena who agreed to give GGG some type of kickback to make the fight possible. Regardless of that, GGG was getting 35% back in May before the fight got cancelled. To increase 7.5% for basically postponing the fight, is hard to say he didn't get the best of these negotiations.

Canelo won because GGG will lose the rematch by controvercial verdict.

GGG's purse jumped 50% from the first fight to the rematch. You'd think the 42.5% turned down is closer to 45%, 12.5% more than the first bout.

Scoring a quick million knocking out Vanes was also easy work.

Only drawback was losing his IBF title but you can argue that saved him coin in regards to sanctioning fees.
