Viewers weren't afforded much time, but that didn't stop more than 1.3 million of them from tuning in to watch Gennady Golovkin's fight Saturday night. Nielsen Media Research ratings released Tuesday showed a peak audience of 1,361,000 watched Golovkin's second-round knockout of Vanes Martirosyan, which HBO televised from StubHub Center in Carson, California. The brief Golovkin-Martirosyan match was watched by an average of 1,249,000 viewers, despite that it began late on the East Coast (12:07 a.m. ET).

the low purse was a guarantee due to risk of low viewership. I'm glad Martirosyan will see more money as well. that wasn't right. he got KTFO for 200K of which 70K will go to taxes. 50K will go to his trainer Count Dracula.

HBO always has good lead ins. Usually the Saturday night premier movie of the week. This time the rock n roll hall of fame with Bon Jovi going in. A good number for HBO.

For such a gross mismatch that's a great number. That will obviously upset a large number on this forum who hate to see the sport succeed unless it's their mancrush.

Meanwhile Canelo couldnt even pull 200k for his fight against Liam Smith lmfao. Golovkin is the A-side and Canelo will have to beg for the rematch.

Make sure you tell chrisJS this when he gets off his faux racism soapbox.

Maybe that fight against Canelo really helped Golovkin's popularity, since most thought he deserved the win?
