By Martin Rogers - Wishing for too much is a dangerous game that always has more than a puncher's chance of ending in disappointment, but after a buoyant 2017 boxing deserves to dare to dream big. Another year like the past one would set the fight game on a very sound footing and there are plenty of positive signs. However, as ever, there are a fair few hurdles to navigate in order for matters to proceed smoothly...

Canelo vs. Loma - let’s see if Loma has the balls to move up like Rigo 😎

          The writer was spot on.

Arum has to let Pacquiao be mehn. Enogh is enough! He has paid his bills, making him a sacrificial lamb for Crawford is a real travesty. He need to either pick and choose who he wants or jus retire. Shame he is still stuck in a contract at his level.

But the Eastern Euro appeal is head scratching not too sure about that one. Most of them are big punchers and the hype over them has been insane except you are looking for a Floyd type mainstream popularity.

Yes Broner vs Pacquiao is a good one, fits right into Pacquiao's agenda of simply money fights now with less physical risk. Who wants to see him bleed like the Horn fight or get beatdown?

If Pacquiao fights Loma or Crawford and wins... No one is looking at that angle. He is on his way out, Loma and Crawford are among the top guys now.

"HBO had some quality stuff in 2017, but its offerings were terribly erratic. High quality contests like Joshua-Klitschko, Canelo-GGG and Sor Rungvisai-Chocolatito II delivered everything promised and more."

Joshua-Klitschko was re-broadcast on tape delay on HBO, it was shown live on Showtime. Canelo-GGG was a PPV you had to shell out 80 bucks to watch, not an HBO fight. So out of the three fights this article tries to cherry pick as "high quality contests" on HBO, only one ACTUALLY took place live on HBO (Sor Rungvisai-Chocolatito II).

And that's not even mentioning the rest of the poo-poo fights they shoveled throughout the year. Nice alternative facts, lol.

Good stuff...but if mentioning HBO’s glaring fail why not mention the 20 ton whale in the room? Showtime, Espinoza and Haymon killed it in 2017!!! Best boxing year in decades!!! The best stepped up and fought the best. Let’s also mention New York is back to being one of the best places to watch boxing!! Vegas burned a lot of bridges with pricing fans out of Superfights and forcing world travelers to watch boxing on an even more expensive closed circuit broadcast. Lastly... if PAC fought Crawford it would have been much better for legacy than passing the WBO Hostage belt by losing to an obscure cherry pick in Jeff Horn. The fight would have been huge, he would still look like a top fighter and it could have gave him the pay day he desperately needs to stop waisting everyone’s time. I mean really, how is Pacquio verses Mike Alvarado benefiting him, his pay or legacy? What will viewership ratings look like? As worn as Alvarado is, what if he is competive, wins the fight or heaven forbid KO’s him? If Manny needs soft touches like a shop worn naturally 140 lb Fighter... well maybe it’s just time to retire champ. No one wants to see the greats in these ball room quality matchups. Too bad Maidana is the size of stadium. PAC vs Marcos Maidana would be a huge closure to his Hall of Fame career!!

                    Just things I'd like.

                    1) Fighters who are not on the Pacquiao, Canelo, Joshua scale of popularity to stay active. No reason for guys not to fight at least twice a year or even 3 times.

                    2) can we make main events start earlier. The Pacquiao fight on ESPN started so damn late. Make the fights at a reasonable time.
