  • Comments Thread For: Skoglund Placed in Medically Induced Coma, Suffers Brain Bleed

It happened last night. Apparently it wasn't hard sparring but something happened in between rounds. Promoter Nisse Sauerland doesn't know if it's serious or not, so he doesn't want to speculate. Media has reached out to Skoglund's team but they still won't say anything.

It doesn't sound good but hopefully he's not seriously injured.

Google translate on some articles I saw says brain bleed and they put him in coma to operate and will know in a few days. I hope that's a bad translation :/

Statement released from skoglunds team. Horrific news

As previously reported, Erik Skoglund was taken to hospital yesterday having felt ill after a training session in his hometown of Nyköping.

Erik was placed in a medically induced coma and underwent surgery last night to repair a bleed on the brain. Doctors are pleased with the results and Erik remains in a serious yet stable condition. The next 3-4 days are critical for his recovery. During this time, we ask that everyone respect the privacy of Erik and his family. We will communicate further information when it becomes available.

Erik Skoglund has been placed in a coma after suffering a bleed on the brain. The super-middleweight was due to fight in London next weekend against Rocky Fielding for the vacant WBC Silver title. But the Swede was forced to wait to enter the ring after the December 17 fight night, at the O2 Arena, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office, was postponed after David Haye withdrew from his main event heavyweight rematch against Tony Bellew.

Thankfully it happened during light sparring. He must have had an underlying problem and the damage would have been worse in a fight. Get well soon.

                    Get well, Erik.

Hopefully, his family and team have enough cash and insurance to pay for the medical bills. If not, start a Go Fund Me and rally boxing fans.
