  • Comments Thread For: Berto Believes Porter Has A Lot of Miles on His Body for 'Young Kid'

By Keith Idec - NEW YORK As Andre Berto reflected Thursday, he couldn't believe how quickly the time has passed. It seems like only yesterday Berto was a young, powerful prospect poised to make his mark in the welterweight division. Fast forward 12 years or so, and the 33-year-old former 147-pound champion is considered past his prime, probably too old and too shopworn to beat Shawn Porter on Saturday night in Brooklyn. Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs)...

That's an interesting thing for BERTO to say...
I do find Andre to be a pretty intelligent guy and he has a lot of insight. But, talk about a lot of miles... Berto has been kicked around the block several times.

Berto may be right, but he still has more mileage than Porter.

I like hearing Berto's perspective, he is a good communicator when it comes to boxing.

Sort of like Paulie, but without the irratating, highly pitched, guido tone speed chatter.

The training has to take it out of you. Has to. But you recover and there are no injuries hopefully. Course, if you tearing muscles and ligaments that is another thing. But getting punched repeatedly in the head is a repetitive injury with accumulative effects. A boxer goes down because he is off balance or because of brain trauma.
Porter has taken some wear and tear in the ring but I see him as a very high level contender. He went neck and neck with Brook and Thurman. Berto is a step or 2 down from them and has no more than a puncher's chance here.

The guy who likes like he was run over by a tractor trailer after every fight is talking about high mileage on Porter? LMAO!

Let's not forget that Porter uses to fight at Middleweight in the amateurs.
