  • Comments Thread For: Merchant Not Surprised Canelo Isn't Fighting Golovkin Yet

Four and a half months ago, Canelo Alvarez knocked out Amir Khan and then called Gennady Golovkin into the ring. Today, Canelo isn't fighting Golovkin. He is fighting Liam Smith and his team is saying that a Golovkin fight, if it comes, won't come until later in 2017.

Always been a fan of Merchant and he is very level headed and fair here. he pulls GGGs card for dragging a WW up 2 weight classes and refusing to move up to fight ward saying it works both ways. And that's my only beef with GGG fans who clearly ignore and justify when GGG makes business decisions based on risk vs reward but when everyone else does it with him oh they just ducking GGG.

He also says GGG is a perfect fighter, have to agree, very level headed and fair assessment.

I don't disagree but I think the main difference is that Brook is gonna help GGG make money and exposure in the UK. Going up to face Ward is a challenge that doesn't provide much of that.

Not a fan of Merchant but he has a point. Bet the fan boys will be all over him saying Golovkin is perfect and ignore the logic on Alvarez kicking the can on fighting Golovkin.

He is right about it working both ways since Golovkin just fought a welterweight and also refused to fight Ward.

It's better business destroying opponents on sky Ppv for 2x your career high than forfeiting belts, draining yourself down and becoming boxings laughing stock

GGG isn't perfect. He eats leather, but his power makes the difference. I can understand him not wanting to move up. Big boys hit harder than little ones.
