  • Comments Thread For: WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman clarifies Wilder-Povetkin situation

Following Boxingscene.com's exclusive interview with Andrey Ryabinskiy, promoter of Alexander Povetkin, the World Boxing Council (WBC) mandatory heavyweight contender, I asked WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman to clarify details relating to their investigation following Povetkin's adverse April 27 Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) test and discussed plans to extend the WBC Clean boxing program to include the top 15 in each division.

This fight will happen. Too much money, too much legacy.

They have to do something even if it's just a 90 - 120 day suspension. I think Povetkin should lose his number one contender status and after the suspension is lifted he should have to fight stiverne to determine the number one contender of that division

If the people investigating Povetkin's claim decide that he is telling the truth, and didn't take Meldonium after it went on the banned list, then they won't have to punish him at all.

That's what the investigation is about, get it? To decide whether to suspend Povetkin or reschedule the fight.

whatever, this fight has been tainted forever.

If bum squad win's, everyone will just claim Sasha was crap all along and could not win without PED's

If Bum squad gets KO'd everyone will just claim Povetkin was on the juice

They have to do something even if he's clean and the meldonium micro traces are from ingestion back when it was legal?

Right now it's looking like Povetkin's side were the ones telling the truth about the status of the fight. If they were also telling the truth about the meldonium quantity (70 nanograms) then Povetkin is considered clean according to WADA protocol since anything under 1 milliliter is considered a trace remnant and too small for a recent dosage (15 milliliters before march 1).

I understand who Wilder's fanbase are and that they will want Povetkin suspended no matter what the result of the investigation is, but hopefully the WBC is a bit more sane.

              legacy?

Povetkin is a nobody in the history of heavyweights.

Wilder beating sasha does nothing for his legacy.

Wider beating povetkin. Is the equivalent of wlad beating povetkin. Nobody cares

Seems like Wilder cares alot, otherwise he would have taken the fight and not make this drama show, telling about vacating the belt. It would be the best guy he faced by far. Now he faces some bum, probably Arreola and drags out the fight for another year or so.

If Wilder beating the guy with the Olympic Gold Medal and the far better resume does nothing for him, then what does Povetkin beating Wilder do for him? It does even 1000x less for Povetkin....

It's not fair for Wilder to keep being held up. Is Wilder supposed to just wait around for this chump to piss clean? Nah man. Deontay Wilder is on a mission. He was ready to travel to Russia to face his mandatory before a huge unification bout with Fury later on in the year. Povetkin pissed dirty. Back of the line son. Deontay Wilder's road continues. That's the way it should be, he's done nothing wrong.
