  • Comments Thread For: Luis Ortiz Must Face Alexander Ustinov By June 19, Orders WBA

On or about August 26, 2015, the WBA received a request from Golden Boy Promotions to sanction a fight between #7 ranked Luis Ortiz (24-0, 21 KOs), from Miami by way of Camaguey, Cuba, and #15 ranked Matias Vidondo (20-2-1, 18 KOs) for the vacant Interim WBA World heavyweight title on October 17, 2015

How many champions does the WBA have? This is killing the sport! Really a joke for same organization to have THREE heavyweight champions. WBA is officially irrelevant.

Hopefully he gets a bigger offer and drops the strap (I don't see the WBA ordering him vs Fury) but realistically nobody worthwhile is rushing to fight him, Fury/Wlad/Wilder/Povetkin are tied up for now, and I guess a 3rd level WBA title could be a bargaining chip at some point in the future. Maybe he could smash it up and trade it in like LaMotta did.

That still gives him a few months to cycle off the roids. Shouldn't be a problem

It's a modern joke. And what sucks is that the sport will never return to the days of one champion per division. Anyone with enough money and a little know-how can start their own organization and claim their top guys as the "world champions." Pathetic.
