  • Comments Thread For: Isiah Thomas: I Would Have Won, Gassiev Fouled Me

Palms Resort & Casino, Las vegas - The Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV co-main event saw a bizarre ending to what was to be a cruiserweight elimination bout. Detroit southpaw Isiah Thomas (15-0, 6 KOs) was winning the fight on all three judges' scorecards through round three when Russian power-puncher Murat "Iron" Gassiev (22-0, 16 KOs) threw accidental late blows to Thomas' head after the bell.

Gassiev would have knocked him out, and will do so in the rematch.

Nady got pissed at his judgment being questioned. Thomas relaxed cuz it was the end of the round and nearly lost his head. Nothing really cheap there...just unfortunate.

        ^^^^^^^^

        yeah pretty much this

Thomas eased up and got caught, He's lucky that he escaped with a NC because if that happens 5 seconds earlier he would have been done

That second punch by Gassiev was vicious.

Honestly watching the fight I could only see Thomas being stopped late.

If you aren't the aggressor in the round, you need to do something big to win the round: either hurt the opponent, knock him down or constantly counter-punch dominate him (via Mayweather did to Canelo)...

Again with the sense of entitlement for fighters who run without doing nothing offensively but just "outpointing" the aggressor...It's really killing boxing..

I'm so glad Gassiev caught Thomas clean and KO'd him... The fact that judges has this fight 3-0 Thomas is quite disturbing and continuing this trend of killing the sport by making it a PC-pacifistic sport where fighters will start to train to run and clinch and avoid exchanges and just feel entitled to win the round by landing more pitty-pat shots...

Gassiev blatantly fouled him. He's very lucky this was called accidental, because it was clearly intentional. The first punch landed on the bell, he couldn't even begin to throw the punch until after the bell rang. He did this on purpose.

The Russian kid was tagging Thomas quite badly since the 2nd round already... He would have KOd him soon... Thomas will not seek any rematch with Gassiev -- he was lucky enough to 'escape' with this NC...
