  • Comments Thread For: Lara Has His Eye On Some Big Names at Middleweight

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - If nothing else, Erislandy Lara has adjusted well to being jilted.

Though he considered himself a clear winner when matched with Canelo Alvarez, he hasn’t spent the 16 months since the disappointment result plying his sadness with ice cream and binge TV.

He’s OK. And he can talk about it these days without tears.

“My mind is that I won the fight,” Lara said. “In this game I’ve been though it before, like in the Paul Williams fight. Another fight where I won the fight but didn’t get the decision. Look, I’ve moved on. I’m a headliner. I headlined my own show in Chicago, which was a good show, and now I’m down here in Miami on ESPN. One of the biggest sports events, the day before Thanksgiving. I’m excited.”

Indeed, Lara will tend to his own business on Wednesday night about 10 miles from downtown Miami, where he’ll risk the IBO share of the 154-pound kingdom against No. 17 contender Jan Zaveck at the Hialeah Park Racing & Casino complex. [Click Here To Read More]

he's a headliner um did you notice how there were literally 50 people in the crowd(all comps probably) how can you brag about fighting in an empty stadium against bums. is he going to demand 50-50 against ggg as well ward style? if ggg doesn't agree he's ducking!

Winner of Jacobs vs Quillin is a fight that can actually happen...which is why it probably won't

Glad he's hungry and wants to fight the top guys. Not enough of that happening in the sport.

Canelo does have all the problem he don't wanna fight you he knows hes got Lara problems. I wonder who else out there is like" You know I want to beat Canelo again if not I want GGG" fking GGG at 160. Even Canelo isn't dumb enough to go up to 160 against Golovkin and he actually has the size and is built like a tank.

I want G to fight this guy but first Canelo, go to middleweight first Lara fight someone in the meantime in 2016 and prove you deserve a shot against a champion like G but props to him for being crazy enough for wanting to be KOed.

I'd be happy to see him fight Derevyanshenko, the MW version of Lomo/Rigo.

But Lara doesn't need any options, he seems satisfied making $1mill/fight against retired WW's. I'd love the Golovkin fight, but the best I can hope for is K2 to call him out.

I'll take him seriously when he takes a single step outside Haymon Protection Services.

Right now, he's just running his mouth. I'd LOVE for him to prove me wrong.

Shut the fk up Lara btch! The last time u fought an elite guy at ur weight u ran like a girl. Nobody wants to watch u fight. U can't draw flies to a pile of poop. Clean out ur division then talk about the mw...annoying semi retired nonsense!
