  • Comments Thread For: Stevenson Stops Karpency In Three, Calls Out Kovalev

It looked like a mismatch going in and lived down to the billing. At least when it was over, the right name came out of the champion’s mouth.

37-year old Haitian World Light Heavyweight Champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KO) of Blainville, Quebec, Canada, scored second and third round knockdowns of 29-year old challenger Tommy Karpency (25-5-1, 14 KO) of Adah, Pennsylvania, en route to a third round stoppage on Friday night at the Rico Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

After it was done, Stevenson called for a long awaited showdown with unified titlist Sergey Kovalev. [Click Here To Read More]

Kovalev has already said he wants it so he's clearly not ducking the fight. Just business won't allow it to happen.

IIRC, they were supposed to fight but Adonis knowingly chose to sign with Haymon despite the fact he knew doing so would eliminate the possibility of a fight.

There's only one way for the fight to happen, and that's if Stevenson accepts the 50-50 offer and fights kovalev on hbo. Kovalev has the exclusive contract with hbo,so there's no point in talking about purse bids, since he wouldn't be able to fight on pbc or showtime. Pretty simple logic.

I think the fight will happen in 2016... At least I hope so.

... or they could make it a joint Showtime-HBO on PPV... In Canada it's PPV anyway...

But Haymon wants to force everybody into his franchize -- he doesn't care for belts or titles or people, he wants every fight under the "PBC" label...
