  • Comments Thread For: Marcos Nader Leaves Pro Boxing, Eyes 2016 Olympics

Former EU super welterweight champion Marcos Nader (18-1-1) is out of professional boxing and has returned to AIBA and the new style of amateur boxing and is looking to qualify to the 2016 Olympics.

Nader turned pro with Sauerland Event in 2009 and things went relatively well until Marcos ran into Roberto Santos. After a draw and a close win over the strong Spaniard he lost to Italian Emanuela Blandamura and that ended his career with Sauerland.

    Nader still a professional

Very interesting that Marcos Nader is suddenly no longer involved in professional boxing and has returned to amateur boxing.

I guess he goes back to wearing headgear and vests again. Oh wait, there is no headgear or vests.

I guess he goes back to 4 rounds of 2 minutes with computerized scoring. Oh wait, he will be boxing a minimum six rounds of 3 minutes with 3 judges using the 10 point must system.

I guess he will go back to being unpaid and just having his per diems and training expenses covered. Oh wait, he is getting paid quite handsomely for participating in APB (AIBA PROFESSIONAL BOXING) and is probably earning more if not at least as much as boxing "professionally".

This article is a complete joke. Marcos Nader is not leaving professional boxing. He has simply changed promoters. AIBA is no longer an "amateur" boxing organization exclusively and in fact they have eliminated the term amateur from their dictionary. APB is their professional boxing promotion designed to be the alternative to turning pro with another promoter. They want to cash in on professional boxing and the boxers are being paid to fight just as Top Rank fighter or Golden Boy fighter or Sauerland fighters.

The fights look the same, they are score the same, and the boxers are paid per fight. How exactly is this leaving pro boxing?
