  • Comments Thread For: Nelson Targets James Kirkland For 4/26, Jonak is Out

Earlier today, Polish reporter Mateusz Borek stated that Damian Jonak has declined an offer to face James Kirkland in an HBO televised fight scheduled for April 26th in New York. Jonak had been the leading contender to face Kirkland but he apparently wasn't happy with the purse being offered.

After hearing the news, BoxingScene.com reached out to junior middleweight contender Willie Nelson to gauge his interest in the fight. Nelson said that not only is he interested in the fight, but that he wanted to call out the hard hitting Texan.

This should be a good fight, Kirkland wins by KO within 3 rounds.

As long as James doesn't run into something early, he should win.

Really could care less- people think james is an easy fight until its the 3rd round and you are internally bleeding - while we are on the subject of calling out fighters why have we not heard a response from GGG's camp concerning Lara calling him out? All i've heard is crickets and bunny farts..

GGG's tv rights are owned by HBO. Lara's are owned by Showtime.

Lara knows this, he was likely calling GGG out for publicity/leveraging a better fight from Showtime.

Notice who doesn't have a big fight setup in April? Angulo, Canelo, Molina, Charlo (hell, both Charlo brothers really) and Cotto are all set for big fights. Lara's name is missing and he likely does not appreciate that.

But yea, GGG v Lara is about as likely as GGG vs Quillin or Floyd vs Manny at this point.
