  • Comments Thread For: Macklin To Lee: Don't Talk The Talk, Put Up or Shut Up!

As previously reported on BoxingScene, middleweight contender Andy Lee claimed over the weekend that Matthew Macklin would be one of his “easier fights” if they were to meet. BoxingScene caught up with Macklin to discuss his rival’s claims and what the future holds for the Birmingham-born, Irishman.

“I was a little surprised by [by and Lee’s comments] because we’ve always got on so well personally” said Macklin

“There was talk years ago of us fighting each other, but we’ve always been very amicable and there so never anything said. I think words were put in his mouth a little bit, the guy who was interviewing him said: ‘Matthew Macklin thinks he’s above you’. I actually didn’t say that about Andy though. That was a reference to when I was on Ringside and they asked if I though I was above the two guys in the studio [Darren Barker and Martin Murray], I actually brought up Andy Lee’s name and said he should be mentioned with us, so when he said he thinks I’d be an easy fight I was thinking: ‘Wow, where’s he going there?’” [Click Here To Read More]

Again with the half an hour of rambling, to say very little. It's a unique talent he's got there, when he retires he should work as an Insomnia prevention specialist.

Should be a good fight, both these guys are given less credit than they deserve. I give Matt the edge, but if Lee can stay on the outside and box a bit he could take a few rounds, especially early on. Macklin takes over in the second half, and will need the knockout to win it if its a 10 rounder, could maybe pull off a close decision if its 12.

DiBella still promotes Lee doesn't he? He's bound to make this fight eventually but he'd surely prefer to get a title in the mix first. If he could get Geale or Quillin for either guy I'm sure that's what he would go for. Two Irish fighters in a world title fight would be a real money spinner compared to the same two guys in a title eliminator.

Macklin should take the Golovkin fight though
