  • Comments Thread For: Dimitrenko Turns Down IBF Tourney, Talks Chisora's Shot

28-year-old EBU Heavyweight Champion Alexander Dmitrenko of Ukraine discussed why he turned down a fight with IBF/IBO/WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko for December and why he's not interested in the IBF's tournament to crown a mandatory challenger to Klitschko. Dimitrenko is the third fighter to turn down the tournament. Denis Boytsov and Jean-Marc Mormeck have also turned down the tournament offer as well. Dimitrenko is focused on defending his title against Polish boxer Albert Sosnowski in early December.

I'm not one of those who thinks that all of the heavyweight division are bums, however it's a pretty bad situation when most of the top contenders don't want to fight each other and don't want to fight the champion either.

I like that the IBF is trying to do something about it. They should go down the list of top heavyweights until they find 4 willing to participate. If that means the #30 rated guy in the division being involved then so be it, at least we'll get to see a boxer with some balls in there rather than some mentally weak over-protected joke.

Ever since Haye gave them the bright idea, everyone who ducks the K-Bros now uses contracts as an excuse. It's a smokescreen and it's very sad. None of these fighters thinks they have a hope in hell against a K- Bro, so they all want a career payday even if they don't deserve one.

IBF contract stipulated that the winner will be legally bound to fight the champion (Wladimir) and it looks like 3 of these guys want nothing of it. What a bunch of chickens.

Unbelievable, just unbelievable. I was all excited at the beginning of this week, after reading the news of the tourni, but apparently fell apart before it even got a chance to get off the ground. Aside from the K Bros and a few notable exceptions (Pulev and Helenius), the hw division is downright horrible. I've defended it for the past couple of years but now, it's a ****ing joke. These guys are bunch of overprotected pussies....

Oh well, there's some good young HWs like Glazkov, Helenius, Pulev, Wilder and Price coming up who are not going to be like the current crop of pussies like Haye, Povetkin and Dimitrenko. The division will probably be better in a couple of years.

So only Banks and Chambers have agreed to participate in the four-fighter eliminator.

Mormeck, Boytsov and Dimitrenko have turned it down.

The three remaining possibilities are 1) Chris Arreola (it would be EXCELLENT to start off the 2011 season of ESPN2 Friday Night Fights with Arreola-Chambers), 2) Derek Rossy and 3) Maurice Harris.
