  • Comments Thread For: How good is Naoya Inoue?

If you've paid attention to boxing in the last decade, you already know Inoue isn't just a great fighter -- he's an all-time great. Easily top three in the sport today, alongside welterweight Terence Crawford and heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk, he is surely a Hall of Fame lock once he hangs up the gloves. But after his seventh-round TKO over TJ Doheny on Tuesday night in Japan, the question now is: just how good is he? And where does he rank across the weight classes for the boxing historians?

I think that it's better to wait and decide how great a fighter is or was until after they hang up the gloves. Think of the guys like you would an actor or a writer, or any other type of artist. At this point Inoue is still creating his body of work. We still don't know what heights he can / will achieve. His greatest work may still be ahead of him. How good is he right now ? I'd say that he's a great fighter , how great remains to be seen.

Who the F wrote this SHlTTY article. Inoue didn't win his light flyweight title against Wittawas Basapean. He won it against 2 time champion and no 1 ranked light flyweight Adrián Hernández, who was making his 6th title defense and 7th in total. The fact that they got this simple fact wrong is why I stopped reading this garbage.

I like Inoue. That said, he doesn't display absurd skills like Pac did. He isn't the best fighter I've ever seen. He is just uncanny in terms of his power advantage at the lightweights. He hits so much harder that he changes these guys, they are very good fighters who aren't used to getting hit by a wrecking ball with every shot. Inoue is a tough mother who just hits harder than everyone he fights.

Which is a damn great feature to have. But as far as the "great movers" thing, Floyd is far better technically. Pac is alot more special skill wise.

I could see Inoue stopping before long. His huge power advantage eventually will dissipate if he keeps moving up, he is 31 and guys will beat him, because his power is THE factor in his career.

        Only time will tell.

Power means nothing if you don't know how to deliver it. It takes a great amount of skill to do what he's been doing, for as consistent as he's been doing it.

Inoue is definitely a good fighter. His power at these light weights is incredible. When he gets to bigger guys who can take his best, his skills will probably get exposed.

I'm no fan boy of any fighter and I call it like I see it. Like watching Inoue alot.

Well depending on how much he has to keep moving up, it wouldn't be so much about his technical deficiencies then. At some point it won't matter about power or skills if the guys are that much naturally bigger.

You're acting like he's Deontay Wilder.

Inoue and Beterbiev are guys who are exceptional boxers but ppl don't seem to notice it due to his power. His fight against Fulton was a bloody masterclass.

True. The article is about the best guys who moved up through the weight classes. Right now Inoue is a hall of famer and a P4P guy for sure, fun as hell to watch. But Pac and Floyd being the two currently best known "weight climbers", I am talking about Inoue relative to that discussion.

Floyd and Pac started tiny and moved to fighting much bigger guys. Inoue is being talked about at that level. And you just stated my point. Inoue will probably get exposed if he moves up like Pac and Floyd because they had the skill level to beat bigger guys.
