This man should be given the chance to call a fight just as much as any other blind or deaf person who happens to be a habitual liar and biased beyond any reasonable degree.

You sound like a newer Boxing fan because to the older heads, Lampley and Merchant are part of Boxing history.

Lampley is one of the best color commentators of all time, possibly the best, and Merchant brought that rawness of journalism. Compare these guys to the puppets of today before undermining them.

Merchant was old school and real as it got. He wasn’t afraid to ask questions on behalf of the fans, he was the voice.

This must be written by AI because it’s sounds like total garbage that was spit out on behalf of some media organization for propaganda to promote corporate commentating.

He may be a part of boxing history, but that doesn’t mean as necessarily a good part of boxing history. In the 80s 90s and 2000s when HBO had a monopoly on premium boxing, Jim, Lampley and his crew called the fights without ever being challenged much, or at all by anybody on that platform, simply because like any other media, it was un accessible to be criticized, except in newspaper editorials, or later on in the beginnings of blogging, YouTube and other growing forms of media. Jim Lampley, Larry merchant, the fight Dr. George Foreman, even Emmanuel Steward when they commentated on fight, they were obviously biased and told to be biased for their fighters. The HBO fighter, regardless of what was happening in the ring was the one who received the positive biased commentary. Today, Jim, Lampley and his whole crew would be mercilessly ripped apart on social media and even legacy media for the way they called fights and commentated on fighters themselves. Some people didn’t mind having Jim Lampley think for them, but there were a lot of people who really despised the way he spoke. And not because it was honest, it was because it was so obviously a lie.

some of these ppl don't like Lampley and Co. because of Mayweather and pbc. if someone talks bad about there favorite fighters, they can't handle it, then spew a bunch of p****** gibberish.

Lampley was the worst kind of bias shill for the A-side. Id say he wrote the book on how to call a fight so that the viewers would think the A-side was always winning. But that would be Howard Cosell. Lampley took the handoff from Cosell and ran. Then Mauro picked up the ball Lampley dropped but thankfully now, even though its not perfect, we have announcers who call fights more evenly. The carnival barker announcer days are over!!! Thank the boxing gods.
