  • Comments Thread For: Chris Algieri Believes Canelo Alvarez Doesn't Want David Benavidez Fight If It Doesn't Happen This Year

When you reach a certain point, you can pretty much do whatever you want. For Canelo Alvarez, that's exactly what he's done. There simply isn't anything that he hasn't accomplished.

If Benavidez never fights Canelo, he only has himself to blame, being stripped twice of his 168 WBC Super Middle weight championship. In his defense, he's done everything he can to try to prove himself worthy, but Canelo doesn't have to fight him, regardless of what he proves, whereas Canelo would have had to fight him to become undisputed.

    Boxing can be sad sometimes.

They offered him it off Showtime on DAZN, his dad said had to be their side even though he was the B side. Canelo moved over so surely it's what AL wants , so if AL thinks he makes the money with two other fights Benavidez has only himself to blame and needs to ask Al why he isn't pushing him. Seems like the best choice PBC side to me.

Canelo used to try to wait fighters into slipping off their primes. He can’t do that with Benevidez so he’s just going to outright avoid him

I think anyone with common sense can see that this is one of the most blatant duck moves we’ve ever seen. Benavidez has put himself in position to not only be one of the most credible opponents canelo has faced in his career, but also one of the most lucrative, as there is significant demand for the fight. But instead he appears to be looking at a middleweight who has had 1 fight in 3 yrs and a welterweight. Chasing greatness has never been Canelo’s goal, minimizing risk and trusting his low intelligence fan base continues to support his less than desirable fights has been his priority.

Canelo only chose to pursue undisputed status at 168 AFTER Benavidez got stripped. He petitioned the wbc 2 days after Benavidez was stripped. Yes Benavidez is to blame for being stripped but Canelo’s aspirations to become undisputed was fueled by knowing he could do so without having to face the most credible threat in the division. Otherwise he would’ve done exactly what he did in other divisions which is get some titles but never try to collect all of them.

He has shown for the last several years that he doesn't WANT Benavidez... why is this year going to be any different... He's probably not going to want Mungia either, although I don't think he's as much of a threat.

Canelo will offer a huge contract to fight Benavidez on April 1 and the fight to be held on May 5. Take or leave it.

Canelo should wait until Biev KO's Bivol and then fight Artur for undisputed. #Chasinggreatness
