  • Comments Thread For: Hearn Floats Pacheco vs. Berlanga for 2024: 'That's a Massive Fight'

Promoter Eddie Hearn has an idea for an attractive in-house matchup for next year. The Matchroom head suggested his company may look into making a super middleweight bout in 2024 between two of their clients: New York-based Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga and rising star Diego Pacheco, a Los Angeles native of Mexican descent.

Brits love to flaunt how they’re the originators of the English language, yet Hearn consistently throws around words like “massive” for mediocre fights, which is mainly what he puts out.

I understand why Matchroom signed Berlanga, but it was obvious that he was gonna be a problem client. A lot of sizzle, very little substance. That's why Eddie wants to make Pacheco/Berlanga. because he's hoping Pacheco wins and deflates Berlanga's ego a bit. One year of inactivity before he left TR, and now he's 5 months inactive with no fight scheduled. He's looking for a payday and will choose his opponents very carefully until he gets there.

Venue could be an issue. MSG gets my vote.

Why not? Like either one of these guys will have any better paydays. It is an interesting fight. A nice co-feature to a bigger main event or a nice fight for a broadcast. No, not massive or all that important really. But interesting and sellable.
