  • Comments Thread For: Abel Sanchez On Golovkin: "He Went Out With A Whimper"

Over the years, Gennadiy Golovkin's ring appearance has waned. From fighting three or four times annually to making a short cameo every other year, Golovkin simply hasn't kept an active schedule. Abel Sanchez, his former head trainer, has also noticed that Golovkin has spent more and more time on the sidelines. Although the two aren't as close as they once were, Sanchez gives his conjecture on why Golovkin has remained out of the public eye.

he went out like a dream.

        Over 40.
Losing a competitive decision in which he rallied late.
Banking 8 figures on last fight against the biggest draw in boxing whom he has beat 2X in most people's eyes.
first ballot hall of fame career
never been KD in his entire career

not many people get to go out like that

Read Sanchez's actual quote (the article is only a few paragraphs long), he seems to be less antagonistic than the headline baits you into thinking:

"It’s unfortunate that it had to be with no fanfare. He just went out with a whimper. He just gave up everything. It’s sad because what a great fighter."

It comes off as him saying G was a great fighter, but his career has floundered with him sticking around at such an old age; and he should've gotten a better send off. Does anyone really disagree with that?

GGG is a “never was”. At one time he was destined to fight all the top fighters from charlo to Lara to ward to Kovalev but it never happened. He sat around and fought Steve rolls vanes matrosiyan Steven butler that szermeta guy all sitting around waiting to get beat up by canelo. One weight paper champion who never fought anyone of note in his career except against canelo who he went 0-3 against. Bumlovkin is one of the worst middleweight champions in the history of boxing

After that big fight against Canelo he has been out of the spot light, no fights, no interviews or announcements. He has chosen it himself so it is up to him to really say what he is going to do next.

If you stay out of the public eye people will move on.

Golovkin is only human. Age and the effect of many rounds of absorbing punishment have their toll. If Golovkin never fights again then I would think it a wise decision. He may be going out without a whimper, but he is going out as a HOF fighter who didn't stop fighting too late for his own good.

Is that a hyperbole when you say Golovkin is one of the worst middle-weight champion's in history or is it supposed to be taken literally.

So many fighters leave boxing on the backend of multiple stoppages and shadows of their former selves but Golovkin may go out in whimper compared to the hype he generated. However, he's going out with his senses and a full bank account, which has to count for something.
