  • Comments Thread For: Subriel Matias-Sergey Lipinets IBF Title Fight In Play For August

Subriel Matias will remain off the free agent market through at least his next fight. BoxingScene.com has learned that Puerto Rico's Matias will make the first defense of his IBF junior welterweight title versus former claimant Sergey Lipinets. A date and location was not yet confirmed, though ESPN.com boxing insider Mike Coppinger--who first reported the development--noted that August 26 is in play for the battle between oft-avoided 140-pound fighters.

Keep on moving the pieces around and do not mention how those fights that have lead to this fight looked inside the ring. Little bit of an aging population of fighters in the group also. Never know how the game of scrabble will turn out. As long as it spells good money for the promoters and protects certain fighters and keeps the money going in the pockets of those promo's n platts they will be happy and if a fight breaks out in the ring well that is never bad for boxing just not its reason for puttin on a fight card is all........

lipiners is an accurate hard puncher, he does seem to do good against pressure fighters and is seeing something else he wouldn't have taken the fight

that being said, matias by stool quit in the 6th round

I'm actually a big fan of this fight due to the style matchup. Obviously, unifications need to be the priority but this should be an entertaining fight.
