  • Comments Thread For: Ali Izmailov: Foster Didn't Want To Fight, That's Why He Held So Much

Top five-ranked light heavyweight prospect Ali Izmailov remained undefeated in winning the biggest test of his young career, a close unanimous decision over fellow unbeaten Charles Foster in a main event showdown on SHOBOX: The New Generation on Hall of Fame Weekend from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y.

Just watched this fight last night. Ismailov arguably lost that fight, it was close. He didn't look impressive, no jab, no urgency and no evidence of that vaunted power. He'd get shut out by Bigpl.ans stopped by Beterbiev.

Foster should have been warned and DQ'd for excessive holding. Terrible.

Izmailov needs to work on his head and foot movement. Hard to say how good or bad he is against a stink fighter like Foster.

Are people dogging the dude because he is Russian? Foster is awful. Ismailov is young. If he fights another puncher who comes to fight and not clench all night, we could see some great fights in the future.

I guess we need more Foster's, who make fights terrible.

The holding? How about the constant stiff arm, measuring is also illegal. (or is it legal now and I missed the memo?) I thought I was watching Shakur Stevenson. The ref said zero about it either.
I thought Foster had success at times due to his movement and made the fight really close but the holding and measuring swayed me to Izmailov who was doing more damage anyhow.

Oh and the nerd announcer kept saying the never retracting stiff arm was a jab.
If I were Izmailov I would target the bicep of that stiffarm without mercy. I would trap it and bring his arm down with the one hand and hit up on his bicep with force with the other hand. Over and over

No, he was being hyped up as the next monster by his promoter and trainer. Then didn’t shine.

Foster was holding but he was also punching in close especially when he got the collar tie. Is it illegal? Yes, is it common on professional boxing? Yes. So Ali has to fight out of the clinches - up the tempo. The stiff arming again it's illegal but it's not overly enforced but Ali has to go under or around around it.

I just didn't see the hype but I'm not discounting him. I just think Ali will need to bring more energy, change the temp of his attacks, and work on how he interacts with the line.
