  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum Overheard Telling Lomachenko He Beat Haney 'Easy'

Bob Arum apparently does not agree with the judges who scored the undisputed lightweight title fight between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko. Last Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Haney fended off Lomachenko over 12 rounds to

LLLoma’s promoter thinks he beat the other guy easy.

    Shocking.

If that is the case, why isn’t Arum mounting a lawsuit against the commission to get it overturned?

Bob’s actions since the announcement don’t match up with this comment.

Paulie said Haney had signed an extension 2 days before the fight. I haven't seen anything to give credence to his statement. I did see this though:

Devin Haney Slams Bob Arum, Calls Him “Old A**” For Saying He Lost To Lomachenko
          May 23, 2023

Adopting the villain role, Devin Haney took to social media today to refer to his now ex-promoter Bob Arum as “old a**” in reacting to him telling Vasyl Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas that Loma had won “easy” last Saturday night in their fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas...

Remember this? Did Bob have a foreign judge for that fight? Why take Loma back there?

Vasiliy Lomachenko’s manager takes issue with Lederman scorecard in Teofimo Lopez fight
Egis Klimas wonders if Julie Lederman should ever judge again.

There’s not many people who will argue that the right man won when Teofimo Lopez overcame pound-for-pound rated Vasiliy Lomachenko last weekend, but Lomachenko’s manager was sure pissed off by the 119-109 scorecard turned in by judge Julie Lederman.

“Does she need to be suspended for life from judging boxing matches? That’s my question,” Egis Klimas said about Lederman’s card, which gave Lomachenko only one round of the fight.

This kind of score obviously reinforces Klimas’ negative perception of having Lederman selected as a judge in the fight, having requested that no judges from either California or New York be assigned to the match to avoid any potential regional bias. Lomachenko trains out of California while Lopez is a New York native, where Lederman is also from.

Nevada State Athletic Commission director Bob Bennett responded to Klimas’ objection by saying that judges are selected based upon their performance, not their regional affiliation, and says he wouldn’t hesitate to bring Lederman back for another big fight in the future.

Whether or not you find that 119-109 scorecard ridiculous — which most fans probably would agree it was — the right man did in fact win the fight, so there clearly isn’t going to be any major outrage from those with less than a vested interest in particular fighter.

I had forgotten about this. Ledermans card was very bad imo.
