  • Comments Thread For: Boxing's Early 2023: Serving The Everyday Boxing Fan Well

By Cliff Rold - For the more rabid boxing fans, 2023 so far has been the sort of year that genuinely feeds fandom. For those who just check in when the headlines get bigger, it doesn't really matter. They're not popping in for every Saturday night or afternoon of overseas ESPN+ streams.

Yes the set up is there for two fight cards this weekend. As far as how the year will turn out fight cards are like the fights themselves you never know what may happen at any moment. Will this year be something of a tease as to what is yet to come or will it all get lost and bogged down into mediocar fights that end flat and go nowhere ? Don't know yet well we do know the history of boxing and boxing promoters and there associate platforms are less then reliable much less consistant with there out put of fights. They talk a good show but never seem to deliver the goods. It is a crap shoot at best, but at least this weekend there is hope of a few decent fights on those two fight cards mentioned. We will know more on Monday morning.

      Great fights coming:
      Wood-Lara
      Benavidez-Plant
      Stanionis-Ortiz
      Joyce-Zhang
      Tank-Garcia (??)
(There is more but can't remember them all)

      But we still need
      Usyk-Fury
      Spence-Crawford
      Beterbiev-Bivol
      etc.

We also lost a lot of fights this year, 5 or 6 fights got cancelled due to injuries and other things

Al Haymon can't pay his fighters, Eddie is a lying weasel and Bob is blocking fights. WTF is this "writer" even talking about???

Yea you learn after a while or i had to learn to not get too hyped about a fight until they are in the ring and the bell sounds. And even then i saw a guy walk out the ring after the opening bell so there is that too. The year is starting out good for me but it might be because of the draught of fights that started around Novermber of 2022
